Status Verification Process

In order to maintain your status and especially if you apply for any benefits, such as working on campus, CPT or OPT, etc., our office must verify that all of your immigration documents are valid by having an IS advisor examine the original documents in person. Most often, we will be emailing you about this requirement when you submit the online I-9 form since verification is required before we can process that form. Verification will also be needed when one of your documents has expired, such as your passport, or you have travelled and have a new I-94 number. In many cases, we will notify you when verification is required for a specific reason, but you can also be proactive and come in for verification when you know that something needs to be updated.

Please bring your original immigration documents:

  • Passport
  • Visa stamp
  • I-94 (card or online print version)
  • I-20/DS-2019 (most recent

We will review the original documents and make copies for your file if needed. The process should take approximately 5-10 minutes. Within days after our review, we will update your LSU information and process your I-9 or other documents that may have been on hold for the status verification issue. We will contact you if anything further is needed by our office. Please email isoemp@lsu.edu if you have questions about this process.
